Nuon Magnum
Nuon is investing in the future and is developing a new power plant, Nuon Magnum. The power plant will use proven, innovative and sustainable technology. It features a multi-fuel concept. A concept whereby several different fuels such as gas, biomass and coal can be used. Nuon Magnum combines sustainability with production capacity.
Multi-fuel concept
Nuon Magnum is based on the so-called multi-fuel concept. This is an efficient electricity plant based on a wide range of fuels such as natural gas, coal and biomass. Important is the use of gasification technology. With the multi-fuel concept, Nuon offers the best solution for generating as clean as possible electricity flexibly and efficiently. Another advantage of this concept is the large-scale production capacity.
Phased construction
Nuon has split the development of the multi-fuel plant into two fases. Nuon Magnum fase I is the natural gas-fired part. Fase 2 entails investments in coal and biomass gasification technology.
By developing Nuon Magnum, Nuon responds to the rising demand for energy. The power plant has a production capacity of 1.200 megawatts. Enough to provide electricity to two million households. In addition, it contributes to making energy supply more sustainable. Nuon expects the power plant to be commissioned in 2011.
Location
Eemshaven, in the province of Groningen, has been chosen as the site for Nuon Magnum. An ideal, spacious location with a modern seaport.
