Marketing Communications Adviser

Stijn Rohof

What do your tasks comprise?

'In my department, marketing communications, we are responsible for all the marketing communications sent to customers and potential customers. We oversee the production of advertising resources such as TV and radio commercials, advertisements in newspapers and magazines and leaflets, as well as all the online communications such as banners, mailings findability in search engines.'

'I carry out campaigns that activate sponsorships of the Nuon Solar Team. For instance, for the last five years we have been selecting the ball boys and girls for the Dutch national football team and we launched a game on Hyves in which you could take part in a virtual race on solar energy to attract more attention to the Nuon Solar Team.'

'I am also working a lot with social media. It is important for Nuon to be visible in new channels such as social network sites and microblog sites like Twitter. Together with Vattenfall we are drawing up guidelines and a long-term strategy.'

What makes you most enthusiastic about working for Vattenfall/Nuon?

'I like the fact that we have enough space and responsibility to make campaigns successful.'

How would you describe your typical day at work?

'On any given day I work on several projects. For example, today I am expecting a proposal from an advertising agency for a campaign aimed at selling more energy contracts.'

'Then I have an appointment with a colleague from marketing to evaluate a campaign that ended this month and this afternoon I am making a presentation to the management team about our plans with respect to the football World Cup.'

Why did you choose to work with customer issues?

'A lot has changed in the energy market in recent years. The competition has grown enormously since the privatisation and the unbundling. Naturally this makes it tough for us but at the same time it’s an interesting challenge to try and hit the targets. Nuon is the market leader. To retain that position we have to respond to the changing market and continue to innovate in order to stay a step ahead of the competition.'

What are the benefits of working for Vattenfall/Nuon

'Working here is great. Everyone can be himself and gets the room to use his own talents. People work hard but there’s a good work/life balance.'
