IT Traineeship

Programme

The IT Traineeship lasts one year. A period in which you get to know our company, gain experience and develop your competences. What does our IT programme comprise?

Operational Experience

In the first two weeks you complete a comprehensive introduction programme, the Operational Experience, in which you get to know all aspects of Nuon. You see what goes on at night in a power plant, you hit the road with the sales force, you get a guided tour of the trading floor and you work alongside a call centre operative. In this way you learn about Nuon, each other, your colleagues, the culture, and potential assignments and principals. Knowledge that will certainly come in handy during and after the traineeship. After all, every unit has it own specific IT requirement.

Assignments

After the introductory weeks you will carry out two assignments which each take about six months. These could involve executing a project or holding a regular job. During these assignments you have your own tasks and responsibilities. You are a full-fledged member of a team of professionals.

You will carry out the two assignments in two of the three domains within the IT organisation: Customer IT, IT Energy Sourcing and Common IT.

Customer IT is a customer-driven developer and manager of a diversity of applications, ranging from SAP IS-U and Siebel Marketing & Analytics to service & support environments. You can count on an ever-changing setting, lots of opportunities to broaden your horizon and young team members with a passion for best-in-class solutions and sustainable performance optimisation.

IT Energy Sourcing develops and optimises the ICT infrastructure for our energy traders. Very challenging, because the international energy markets are dynamic and the time-to-market is generally very short. Consequently, as an IT professional you pull out all the stops to translate business requirements quickly into total solutions that make a sustainable contribution to the strategic goals of the organisation.

Common IT manages and optimises a wide range of applications. From the implementation of complex data centre environments to the development of innovative intranet and internet environments. We serve a number of internal customers and do everything we can to facilitate the business operations. That makes a lot of demands on IT specialists and the commitment of our professionals.

You yourself can choose the available assignment you feel is best suited to you or your development. This is a challenge, but it also gives you the freedom to choose something that is suited to you. For each assignment you enter into a performance contract, in which agreements are laid down regarding the results to be achieved.

Tuition

During your traineeship you will follow an intensive training programme. You will take most of the training courses with other trainees. The training courses are industry-specific (e.g. about information management within the energy sector) or develop your skills (incl. project management skills) and competencies (incl. communications, teamwork).

Coaching

Although we expect you to take plenty of responsibility for yourself, as a trainee you are of course not all on your own. For each assignment someone will guide you in your daily work and your personal development. In addition, for the duration of the traineeship you will have an individual mentor and a young talent manager. The individual mentor is your sparring partner or confidant. With the young talent manager you plot your long-term course. He/she also coordinates the entire process and helps you find suitable assignments.

Finally, you are part of a trainee pool. You will spend a lot of time with your fellow-trainees, discussing issues of mutual interest and participating in many fun activities together.

Completion

After one year you will be ready to get cracking as a fully-fledged IT professional, project leader, consultant or team leader. We will help you to look for the job that is best suited to your abilities.

After your traineeship we will stay involved in your development in the way of coaching, training and intervision. Nuon finds it important that you continue to learn and grow after the traineeship as well.
