Traineeship Technische Talenten

Technical Traineeship

For top technical people who, along with us, will make history by providing reliable and flexible energy supplies in the future. You will be made ready for this in the space of one year, starting in April or October.

Operational Experience

In the first two weeks you complete a comprehensive introduction programme, the Operational Experience, in which you get to know all aspects of Nuon. You see what goes on at night in a power plant, you hit the road with the sales force, you get a guided tour of the trading floor and you work alongside a call centre operative. In this way you learn about Nuon, each other, your colleagues, the culture, and potential assignments and principals. Knowledge that will certainly come in handy during and after the traineeship.

Assignments

After the Operational Experience you will do two assignments in which you take the time to go deeply into the technical issues and can develop into a specialist. You yourself can choose the available assignment you feel is best suited to you or your development. The assignments will take place within the business units Generation, Heat and Industry Parks, which have been joined into one division: Power, Heat & Services.

Generation: ensuring a reliable energy supply
The department responsible for the production of electricity and heat is Generation. This includes natural/blast furnace gas and coal-fired power plants in various regions of the Netherlands and the Willem-Alexander power plant in Buggenum, an advanced plant at which coal is gasified and biomass is cofired. In the future the Magnum power plant, which is currently under construction in Eemshaven, can be added to this list. The underground natural gas storage facility at Epe, Germany, is part of Generation as well.

Heat: smart solutions for heating and cooling buildings
The Heat department focuses on reusing residual heat and supplying district cooling. Alternatives that save an enormous amount of CO2.

At locations where large volumes of residual heat become available out of industrial processes, the residual heat is captured and transported to customers via a district heating network. They can use the heat for space heating, so that district heating replaces natural gas.

District cooling ensures that buildings and computer rooms are cooled without the need for air-conditioning systems and suchlike, which consume a lot of energy. To produce district cooling we use the low temperature of deep water. This enables us to supply a whole area with cooling from a central facility.
