Heat transport pipeline Diemen - Almere

Heat transport pipeline Diemen - Almere

At the beginning of April 2011, Nuon started laying a heat transport pipeline under the IJmeer between the Diemen power plant and the city of Almere. It is the first time that a heat transport pipeline 8.5-km long will have been laid under water. The pipeline lies 1.5 metres under the bed of the IJmeer.

Heat from new power plant

Until the new Diemen power plant, Diemen 34, is ready, the demand for heat in Almere will be supplied by existing power plants in Almere and Diemen. The necessary modifications will be made for this in the time ahead.

The combination of heat and electricity production pollutes the environment as little as possible.

Timetable

The supply of heat via the heat transport pipeline to Almere Poort and Almere Stad will get under way at mid 2012. The demand for district heating in these areas is increasing as a result of large-scale newbuild projects. Around 11,000 homes in Almere are to be connected to the heat network.
