Nuon Helianthos
Helianthos manufactures flexible solar cell foil. This foil contains ultra-thin active layers (30 to 50 times thinner than a human hair) that convert light into electricity.
Helianthos is developing a roll-to-roll production process for the solar cell foil. This unique production process, which is currently being optimised, provides important advantages in large-scale production. The application of solar cell foil on a large scale is expected to make solar energy considerably cheaper.
Nuon Helianthos has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nuon since the summer of 2006. At present, Helianthos has a pilot plant in Arnhem, where 30 cm-wide solar cell foil is made. Nuon Helianthos will apply the solar cell foil in pilot projects.
