Clean coal
The technology of coal gasification provides better environmental performance than conventional power plants. Making gas from coal and biomass and then cleaning it creates a clean fuel for power production. Nuon already uses this gasification technology in its power plant in Buggenum, in the province of Limburg.
Replacing some of the fossil by biomass enables the emission of CO2 to be substantially reduced. CO2, or carbon dioxide, is a greenhouse gas and is part of the natural carbon cycle. It is important to keep this natural cycle in balance.
