Access to gas
Choices have to be made so as to keep the electricity supply flowing at all times. Fossil fuels are becoming increasingly scarce and a totally renewable electricity supply is not yet possible. Nuon has therefore made the distinct choice to diversify its raw materials and production techniques.
Gas is one of the end products that Nuon supplies to business customers and consumers alike. But gas is also an important fuel for the generation of electricity. In order to become less dependent on external parties Nuon adopts a clear position in the gas market, from exploration and production to delivery.
To have direct access to gas and a grip on finding and producing gas, Nuon has an interest in 35 gas fields in the North Sea. Furthermore, we have our own gas storage capacity, which enables us to respond more easily to the daily fluctuations in supply and demand on the gas market. Nuon is working hard to further improve this position.
