Less CO2 emitted to the atmosphere

The global climate problem requires a drastic reduction in CO2 emissions. Nuon aims to operate CO2-neutrally in 2050. We plan to achieve this ambition by stimulating energy saving and by investing in renewable energy production and using fossil fuels in a clean and responsible manner.

We believe that large-scale 'Carbon Capture and Storage' (CCS) is an essential step towards a renewable energy supply. Before being able to apply CCS in practice, a lot will have to happen in the domains of technology, regulation and legislation.

We have started a CO2-capture pilot at our power plant in Buggenum. We aim to use the knowledge and experience we will gain there in our planned multi-fuel power plant Nuon Magnum in Groningen. At the same time, we are collaborating in North Netherlands with the provinces and a consortium of companies in a project for the entire chain CO2-capture, transport and storage.

The clean and responsible use of fossil fuels alone is not sufficient. Other things are essential too. That’s why Nuon is also investing in renewable energy production and energy saving.
