IJmond power plant

When it was commissioned in 1979 this was the first gas turbine outside Japan that could be fired with blast furnace gas. IJmond 1 is on the  Corus site so as to keep the blast furnace gas transport pipe as short as possible. The unit also supplies heat to Corus for its production process.

Hemweg power plant

There is a coal and gas-fired unit in Amsterdam. The coal-fired Hemweg 8 is Nuon's biggest unit. The specific attention paid to processing residual materials and capturing SO2 and NOX makes this one of the cleanest coal-fired power plants in Europe.

Purmerend CHP plant

As well as producing electricity this CHP unit can also produce heat, which is used to supply district heating to thousands of homes in Purmerend.

Naast het produceren van elektriciteit kan met deze warmtekrachteenheid ook warmte worden geproduceerd. Hiermee worden duizenden huishoudens in Purmerend van stadsverwarming voorzien.

Wieringermeer wind farm

The wind farms bearing the name 'tocht' (Dutch for breeze) - Ulketocht, Waardtocht, Groettocht, Oudelandertocht and Waterkaaptocht - indicate that the Wieringerpolder is a windy area and was an ideal location for a substantial wind farm. Together with local agricultural firms and the municipality, Nuon took on the task of building five wind farms. 46.000 homes supplied.

Maurik hydropower plant

The Maurik hydropower plant was built in 1988 in the Nederrijn river at the Amerongen dam. This location is much loved by photographers and film crews for the unusual architecture of the dam. The hydropower plant itself is located largely underground. As well as the turbine hall and the control rooms it is also possible to see the gigantic pipes (and 'hear') almost 20 metres below the water level where the water flows through them. A fish ladder has been installed at this power plant by thr Directorate for Public Works and Water Management.
