Feb 06, 2009 | Amsterdam Nuon backs North Netherlands' climate plans

"With Nuon Magnum we can make major strides forwards with large-scale CO2 capture." Doede Vierstra, CFO of Nuon, was present at the presentation of a CO2 capture plan to Ministers Cramer (Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment) and Van der Hoeven (Economic Affairs).
The North Netherlands Region is committed to making a major contribution towards the national climate policy. One of its initiatives concerns the organisation of large-scale CO2 capture and storage in the region. Nuon is one of the partners cooperating in this action plan.
CO2 capture at Nuon Magnum
Nuon wants to start capturing CO2 in its new Magnum power station that is to be built at Eemshaven. Because of the available storage capacity in empty gas fields, the North Netherlands Region is an ideal location for underground CO2 storage. This approach would lead to CO2 savings of 2 to 2.5 million tons per year, the equivalent of the emissions of some 1 million cars per year.
