Restart construction Nuon Magnum end of August

Jul 22, 2009 | Amsterdam Restart construction Nuon Magnum planned for end of August

Nuon Magnum

The construction of the multi fuel power plant Nuon Magnum can be restarted at the end of August, because all necessary permits have been granted.

In May 2008 the construction of Nuon Magnum was halted due to delay in the permit procedures. Nuon has now obtained all permits necessary for restarting the construction. Since 16 July 2009 the relevant authorities have deposited the adapted permits for inspection. These are the licence under the Environmental Management Act (Wm) and licences under the Pollution of Surface Waters Act and the Water Management Act (Wvo/Wwh). This means that, unless a request for suspension of the Wm or Wvo permit is filed within six weeks, the construction can be restarted at the end of August.

Nuon Magnum will be located in the Eemshaven in Groningen. The plant has a capacity of 1200 MW and will be able to supply energy to more than two millions households. Nuon Magnum will make a substantial contribution to securing the future energy supply in the Netherlands through the use of multiple fuels (gas, biomass and coal). This will reduce our dependence on a single type of fuel. Moreover, the applied technology will enable us to respond flexibly to the fluctuating availability of sources such as wind energy.
