Silver for Nuon Solar Team

Nuna5

Nuna5, the car that runs on solar energy, today completed the World Solar Challenge in Australia in second place.

In the four previous races the Nuon Solar Team finished first, but this year the car of the Japanese Tokai University was stronger and Nuna5 struggled to overcome the effects of a crash during a test drive. Nuna5 had qualified in second position and was finally able to maintain it after a tough battle with the team from Michigan (USA), during which the cars overtook each other several times. Along with the Japanese team the Nuon team celebrated the victory over the team from Michigan in the fountain in Victoria Square, Adelaide.

Each year, the Nuon Solar Team is made up of students from Delft Technical University, who interrupt their studies for a year to construct the solar car. The team members come from various disciplines (Electrotechnology, Aeronautics and Astronautics, Sustainable Energy Technology, Architecture, Industrial Design and Mechanical Engineering). Nuon has been the main sponsor of the Nuon Solar Team since 2001. By participating in the World Solar Challenge Nuon stimulates the interest in renewable energy and innovation.
