Further Nuon Energy Shop closures

May 14, 2010 | Amsterdam Further Nuon Energy Shop closures

Energy Shop

Nuon is further reducing the number of Nuon Energy Shops, with the last store closing its doors towards the end of 2010. Nuon’s online Energy Shop will continue to exist and will be given a more prominent role. Customers can visit the online store to purchase energy-saving products that will be delivered to their home address.

In 2000 Nuon started to open a series of Nuon Energy Shops with a view to maintaining a visible high-street presence. The stores also provided an opportunity to actively promote new products such as high-efficiency boilers and provide personal energy advice. Meanwhile, Nuon is able to cater to the national market for these products through its subsidiary Feenstra and also has a field staff of energy advisers who visit customers at home.

The growing use of the internet by customers also makes it less important for Nuon to maintain a physical presence. More and more customers are visiting the webstore and ordering energy-saving products online. Compared with this sales channel, physical stores are relatively expensive to run. For these reasons, the doors of the Nuon Energy Shops in Beek, Zwolle, Enschede and Groningen were already closed last year. The stores in Baarn, Alkmaar, Amsterdam, Leiderdorp and Nijmegen will be phased out in the course of 2010.
