Beaufort wind farm not awarded subsidy

May 18, 2010 | Amsterdam Beaufort wind farm not awarded subsidy

Nuon’s Beaufort wind farm has not been awarded a subsidy under the SDE scheme for offshore wind farms at this stage. The Ministry of Economic Affairs announced its decision to this effect on Wednesday 12 May.

The subsidy has been awarded to two projects north of the island of Schiermonnikoog. Whether the projects’ initiator decides to use the subsidy will become clearer in around two months’ time, as will the extent of the budget remaining for subsidies.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs has chosen to use a tender system for the SDE scheme, which is open to parties that have a Wbr (Public Works Act) permit for a wind farm in the Dutch part of the North Sea. Nuon obtained this permit in November 2009 and submitted its tender on 1 March this year.
