May 26, 2010 | Amsterdam European Commission approves subsidy for CO2 capture pilot at Buggenum
The European Commission has given the Dutch authorities permission to award a subsidy of EUR 10 million to Nuon for the CO2 capture pilot project at Buggenum.
The European Commission encourages the development of CO2 capture as this technology can make a contribution towards the achievement of the EU’s environmental objectives for 2020.
With the pilot at Buggenum, Nuon is seeking to make the pre-combustion CO2 capture technology suitable for the energy sector and optimise the process. Nuon will use the knowledge and experience gained in order to realise large-scale CO2 capture at the Magnum power station that is being built at Eemshaven. This project fits in with Nuon’s strategy to make energy generation more sustainable.
The preparations for the CO2 capture project in Buggenum are in full swing. Nuon expects to take the CO2 capture installation into use and start the pilot in August 2010.
