Oct 28, 2010 | Amsterdam Nuon reduces energy rates
Nuon is reducing the variable rates for consumers from 1 January 2011. This will cut the energy bill by over 3%, so that a household with an average consumption will pay over 30 euros less for their energy.
Thanks to falling market purchasing prices, gas delivery will be about 5% cheaper while electricity delivery will cost about 1% less. These percentages are indications.
Further energy savings
This puts the energy costs back at the level of 2006. From 1 January an average household will spend about 5% of their disposable income on energy. And these costs can be reduced even further - because Dutch households still waste many hundreds of euros every year on unnecessary energy usage.
Almost half of all houses in the Netherlands are not properly insulated, for instance. Insulating an uninsulated wall can save you an average of € 168 per year. And thanks to the reduced VAT rate (from 19% to 6%), this is the ideal time to insulate your house.
Nuon will set the definite energy rates in December. All customers will receive a personal letter informing them of the new rates.
