- New areas: central Germany and Potsdam
- Price cut: 'lekker Strom' in Berlin now even better value
- Own gas storage facility in Epe (North Rhine Westphalia) from 2009 also connected to the German gas grid
Feb 06, 2008 | Berlijn Nuon expands German business – more than 200,000 customers

Nuon Deutschland is undertaking a further significant expansion of its presence on the German energy market. “We can look back at an exceptionally successful year. We now have a total of more than 200,000 'lekker Strom' customers,” said the chairman of the management board of Nuon Deutschland, Dr. Thomas Mecke. “Our strategy for metropolitan areas has been successful and so we will continue to expand in the German market in 2008.”
From now on, consumers in central Germany and Potsdam will also be able to buy “lekker Strom” from Nuon. Dr. Mecke is convinced Nuon will become successful in these new sales areas as well. “Competition on the German electricity market is becoming increasingly intense. Customers are no longer shy of changing electricity supplier.”
There is more good news for all Berlin customers of “lekker Strom”. After the Federal German agency responsible for the electricity grid lowered access fees to the grid, Nuon will be passing this saving on to its customers. “lekker Strom” will become even cheaper and the reduction is being backdated to 1 January 2008. The chairman of the management board of Nuon Deutschland was also confident that it would prove possible to keep the price of “lekker Strom” unchanged this year in Berlin and Hamburg. He said that price rises are not planned.
“Nuon is also strengthening its position in the German market through its activities on the production- and asset side,” Dr. Mecke added. In Epe in North-Rhine Westphalia, Nuon is currently making a gas storage facility also accessible for the German market. The construction and commissioning of the connection to the German gas grid will be undertaken this year so that the storage facility will become available from 2009 onwards.
