Jul 31, 2008 | Amsterdam Joint venture for largest offshore wind farm in Belgium
Nuon is forming an alliance with Electrawinds and C-Power Holdco to develop the biggest wind farm off the Belgian coast. Nuon and its partners have lodged an application, under the name of Seal, for a location at Noordhinder, about 45 km from the coast. This concession application was published yesterday in the Belgian Government Gazette.
The CREG (Commission for Electricity and Gas Regulation) admitted the concession application on 30 July. Nuon, Electrawinds and C-Power Holdco are therefore in de race for the definitive award of the concession, after which construction can begin. Because of the distance of 45 km from the coast the wind farm will not be visible from land. It is the furthest from the coast of all the planned wind farms in the Belgian North Sea.
Belgium’s target is for 13 percent of its energy to be generated sustainably in 2020. Currently the proportion of sustainable generation is 2.2 percent (1,600 GWh/yr). Wind energy is an important contributor to achieving this target.
Nuon and its partners have joined forces in a trading company by the name of Seal. The parties have combined their forces so that best use can be made of the expertise of each of the partners.
