Aug 21, 2008 | Amsterdam Constructors of Nuon Magnum to be housed in project hotel
During the construction of the Nuon Magnum power plant the contractors’ staff will be housed in a temporary accommodation to be built in the vicinity of Eemshaven, in the province of Groningen. Following a European tender for building this temporary accommodation Nuon plans to place the order with Van der Wiel/Van der Valk. This building consortium has developed a plan to build it at Groot Bronswijk in Wagenborgen, in the municipality of Delfzijl.
"All kinds of workers are needed for the construction of a power plant," says Rien van Haperen, project director for Nuon Magnum, "from mechanics, painters and welders to team leaders, admin staff and specialists in many different fields. These workers will be taken on by the subcontractors engaged by the main contractor Mitsubishi and that come from all over Europe. It is important to Nuon that these workers have suitable accommodation, taking the surroundings into consideration."
Setting up temporary housing that responds to all the requirements in the area of health and safety appears to be the best way of going about this. The plan for the project hotel provides both for single-person accommodation and for communal areas for recreation and relaxation. There will also be a shuttle transport service to and from the construction site, catering and a supermarket on the premises.
By ensuring that the housing fits in with the surroundings, is of high quality and has adequate facilities for relaxation, local residents will not be inconvenienced. The maximum capacity of the temporary housing will be 1,200 people. In the months ahead, the building consortium Van der Wiel/Van der Valk will work out the plans in detail.
The Wagenborgen location is one of the three locations selected by Energy Village for the temporary housing. Energy Village is a partnership between the province of Groningen and the municipalities of Delfzijl, Eemsmond, Appingedam and Loppersum. The province and these municipalities have taken the initiative to ensure that the many workers who will be employed on the huge building projects in the Eemsdelta in the coming years are properly housed.
