Smart energy management pays. With the assistance of Nuon, waste processing company Icova has put its energy use under the microscope and improved its energy management. Thanks to online monitoring of its gas consumption, re-use of heat and the use of combined heat and power stations, Icova now uses less gas and generates its own energy. The company is thus saving hundreds of thousands of euros on its gas bill, with the added bonus of a 10% reduction in its CO2 emissions.
Re-use of waste and re-use of energy – at Icova these go hand in hand. Over the past two years the waste processing company, together with Nuon, assessed its energy use and fully streamlined this with its business processes.
Two combined heat and power stations and an online gas consumption monitoring system give the company the tools to regulate its own energy demand and usage. The combined heat and power stations yield some 40% of the company’s electricity requirement, which is energy that Icova no longer needs to buy itself. Instead of blowing the released heat through the chimney, this heat is now captured and used to dry waste before it is processed into pellets (fuel for power stations).
Besides being an energy producer and supplier Nuon is, above all, a partner in energy solutions for the large business market.
