Sep 15, 2008 | Waardenburg Nuon to supply gas to health care institutions
On 15 September Purchasing consortium Intrakoop and Nuon concluded a substantial contract for the supply of gas to health care institutions at more than 1,800 locations. Intrakoop awarded Nuon the contract following a competitive tender issued by Intrakoop. Deliveries start on 1 January 2010 and run until 1 January 2013, with an option to extend twice by one year. The volume for this three-year contract is more than 250 million cubic metres of gas.
As a result of this tender the participating members of Intrakoop will get a considerable discount on the commodity price and national transport costs.
It is becoming ever more important to be able to control gas consumption costs. The global market price for gas and underlying raw materials rose in the first half of this year by more than 70% in comparison with the same period last year. The price rise on the global market is reflected straight away in the gas price, so it is important for businesses and purchasing organisations to respond to fluctuations in the oil and gas markets.
By strengthening its position throughout the chain – from production to supply – and through a very active trade policy, Nuon aims to offer its customers security and flexibility. The recent acquisition of a company with an interest in 35 gas fields in the North Sea fits in with this strategy.
Flexibility and tailor-made services for the members of Intrakoop
"Intrakoop is a very professional purchasing organisation for health care institutions and we seem to be a good match," says Hans Mart Groen, managing director of Nuon Business. "That’s why we are so pleased with this contract. The contract with Intrakoop is based on partnership and customised services, with a direct connection between our trading floor and advisors and the purchasing organisation. Thanks to our trading floor we stay on the cutting edge of the market. We are able to make purchases at sharp prices and react to fluctuations, so we can limit the risks and grasp the opportunities. The contract with Intrakoop is a good reflection of our ambitions for our gas portfolio for the business market."
Frank Kaptein, general manager of Intrakoop, adds, "This frame contract with Nuon provides even more tailor-made services and flexibility for our members. In addition, it offers an excellent discount on commodity and transport as well as a comprehensive energy management tool for budgeting and costs control."
