Sep 29, 2008 | Amsterdam Nuon starts preparing for the construction of an efficient power plant in Seneffe, Belgium

Nuon plans to build a modern gas-fired power plant to the north-west of Charleroi, Belgium. Today the contractor that will carry out the preparatory work on the site at Seneffe was chosen. In 2009 Nuon expects to get the licences it needs to start the construction of the power plant.
The preparatory work is to be carried out by the Belgian contractor Wanty, which will begin making the site ready for construction in a few weeks time. Nuon will continue collaborating with local companies during construction and in the operating phase.

The planned facility has a capacity of 400 megawatts and will be able to supply power to about 700,000 households. A Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) is to be used in the power plant. This utilises residual heat in the steam turbine and is very economical. In addition, the power plant will guarantee a reliable supply of electricity and can easily respond to peaks and troughs in demand.
Nuon is investing in production capacity in Belgium, so as to provide reliable and affordable energy to its customers in the long term. Belgium now relies partially on imported electricity. With the project in Seneffe as well as with the construction of a large wind farm in the port of Antwerp, Nuon is making a substantial contribution to security of supply by generating power in Belgium.
