Dec 03, 2008 | Amsterdam Solar-powered Nuna5 sets out for fifth victory in World Solar Challenge

Nuon, as the main sponsor of the Nuon Solar Team, has signed up to support the construction of Nuna5 and its participation in the tenth World Solar Challenge® being held in Australia between 25 and 31 October 2009. Solar-powered vehicles from various countries will race over 3000 km from Darwin to Adelaide in a bid to cross the finishing line first. Nuon is sponsoring the project to show what solar energy can achieve.
The Nuon Solar Team, comprising students from the Technical University of Delft, has won the last four World Solar Challenge® races, with each version of Nuna being faster and more compact than its predecessor. New records are expected to be set during the next Challenge.
The fourteen new students in the fifth Nuon Solar Team are also once again going all out for victory, led by their team captain Rein van den Eijnde.
Nuna4 marked the first step towards a 'real' car suitable for day-to-day use. It has normal car lights, for example, and the driver can sit upright. These features will also be continued in Nuna5. The team will be working on the design over the coming months.
Nuna5 will be presented in June 2009, and the team will spend the months between then and the race in October testing and optimising the solar vehicle.
