Nuon develops new wind farm in the North Sea

Offshore windpark

Nuon plans to develop a new offshore wind farm 24 kilometres from the Dutch coast. Nuon regards offshore wind power – along with onshore wind power – as one of its principal spearheads, standing alongside energy saving and making electricity production from fossil fuels cleaner. The construction of this wind farm is in keeping with Nuon’s ambition to reinforce, with future partner Vattenfall, its number one position in the domain of offshore wind energy in Europe

Nuon has been making the preparations since 2005. The new wind farm, which will have a capacity of 340 MW, is to be called Beaufort.

By investing in wind energy Nuon is supporting the cabinet’s target of realising 6000 MW offshore by 2020. Nuon intends developing a total of 1400 MW of wind energy by 2015 and expects to receive very soon the permit for the construction of the wind farm. In addition, Nuon believes it has a good chance of acquiring the necessary subsidy within the framework of the Dutch sustainable energy subsidy scheme (SDE). The Ministry of Economic Affairs will soon publish the detailed criteria for this.

Since 2007 Nuon has been operating, together with Shell,  the first Dutch offshore wind farm at Egmond aan Zee and is therefore one of the most experienced companies in the Netherlands in terms of offshore wind energy.
