Electric transport

Oct 05, 2009 | Groningen First sustainable charging point for electric scooters and bicycles in the Netherlands

This afternoon at 16.00 at the Hanzehogeschool in Groningen Marc Jager, representative of Groningen on the Provincial Executive, opens the first sustainable charging point for electric scooters and bicycles in the Netherlands.

The unique feature of this charging point is that the energy is supplied by the dun and the wind. The municipality of Groningen, Nuon and the Hanzehogeschool Groningen plan to install more sustainable charging points of this type in the city. The official unveiling coincides with an Innovation Fair for Electric Transport.

Free solar and wind energy

The three parties are partners in the Green Scooter Project. The purpose of this project is to put more sustainably powered electric scooters on the road. This will improve the air quality, strengthen the local economy and promote the use of green electricity.

Electric transport is clean, silent and economical. Groningen aims to be the most sustainable city in the Netherlands and energy-neutral in 2025. Building an infrastructure that facilitates electric transport contributes to that aim.
