Jan 22, 2010 | Hagen/Berlijn/Amsterdam Südwestfalen Energie und Wasser AG intends to take over Nuon Germany
With effect from 1 January 2010 Südwestfalen Energie und Wasser AG intends to take over all shares in Nuon Deutschland GmbH from Nuon. In its meeting on 22 January 2010 the supervisory board of Südwestfalen Energie und Wasser AG approved the takeover. The final contractual implementation is still subject to the approval of the supervisory authorities.
Background to transaction: as of 1 July 2009 Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall AB took over 49% of company shares in Dutch Nuon. The EU Commission only agreed that the deal could go ahead if Vattenfall completely sold Nuon Deutschland GmbH. Consequently Vattenfall launched the sales process in August 2009.
Nuon Germany is an innovative energy supplier with around 300,000 customers and a sales turnover of approximately € 244 million p.a. Nuon provides electricity and gas to the private and business customer segments in selected German metropolises – in particular in Berlin and Hamburg.
Ivo Grünhagen, CEO of Südwestfalen Energie und Wasser AG: "The purchase of Nuon Germany fits our brand portfolio and provides new growth opportunities for our group in an interesting market environment."
