Nuon Foundation
The Nuon Foundation was set up to encourage Nuon employees to make a voluntary contribution to society and to support them in these efforts. The Foundation helps Nuon employees to find suitable voluntary work and offers financial support for good causes that they are personally involved in.
The Nuon Foundation is exclusively open to employees of Nuon. This entails that a good cause cannot approach the Foundation on its own initiative for financial support, but must be recommended by a Nuon employee who does voluntary work for the good cause in question.
The policy of the Foundation is aimed at inspiring employees to help others on a voluntary basis. It is our conviction that this promotes the personal development of employees, with positive knock-on effects in terms of greater social involvement in their daily work. Three themes were identified for 2007: integration, education and nature and the environment. In 2007 the Foundation celebrated its first anniversary with a competition and a communication campaign. The prize for the winners was five days volunteer’s leave. There were over sixty entries and five winners. The Foundation marked its birthday on 1 April by expanding the scope of its activities. In the first year its activities were confined to social and community projects in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, but this scope was widened on 1 April 2007 to include initiatives in the entire world. In 2007, as in 2006, the Foundation organised several activities to introduce Nuon employees to the world of voluntary work. In 2007 it started to hold meetings in which colleagues with experience as volunteers inspire others to make a voluntary contribution to society. These meetings were already successfully held in Amsterdam and Arnhem. The other Nuon locations are on the agenda for 2008.
In 2007 50 employees submitted projects for financial support and all requests were granted. This compares with 35 submitted projects in 2006, of which 25 were accepted. This support led to the structural deployment of at least 50 new volunteers. A total of 600 employees (300 in 2006) found their way to the Foundation. They either set up projects themselves, took part in activities of the Foundation or helped their colleagues with their voluntary work. In the reporting year an amount of about 250,000 euros (150,000 euros in 2006) benefited social organisations or projects in which Nuon staffers were involved in their free time.
